Why did you become a dentist?
I came into the dental field originally as an assistant, and was impressed with the positive environment of dentistry. I was really great at working with patients and my hands, and knew I could do more. I decided to start making my way through undergraduate school, while still working as an assistant. I love being able to help people and put them at ease. I feel like dentistry is a mixture of science, socializing, and art. These are things I love, and growing up I was always doing things with my hands such as drawing, painting, cooking, and various sports. Working as a dentist allows me to continue working with my hands while applying science, physiology, and compassion towards people.

Why did you become a dentist?
I wanted to tie together my desire to help people and find a job that kept me on my feet all into one field; that is when I began exploring dentistry. Dentistry is an art form that can positively impact peoples lives. I wanted to be an artist that could make a difference in the world.

Education
  • Bachelor of Science - Colorado State University
  • Bachelor of Science in Pre-Med - Colorado State University
  • Doctorate - Pacific University College of Optometry
Why did you become a optometrist?
I became an optometrist because I've always had an interest in helping others. I also did not have any form of eye care as a child. My first eye exam was at the age of 14, thinking that blurry distance vision was normal for a teenager. I then understood what a difference an eye doctor can make in one's life. My vision became worse every year and I needed access to eye care, glasses, and contact lenses. There were not many answers for a struggling teen and college kid who could not afford the care I needed. I was driven to finish school and become an eye doctor so I can help those in need, like myself.
Interesting Facts

I've been married for 25 years to Roxann, we have 4 children, 3 boys, one girl. We own a dog, Winston. I was born in Southern California and I have two younger sisters. We all live in Colorado Springs, along with my mom. I enjoy all things music and all sports. Tennis & Guitar are my favorite.

  • Doctor of Optometry - Midwestern University College of Optometry
  • Residency - Southern College of Optometry (vision therapy and neuro optometric rehabilitation)
Why did you become a optometrist?
I was always drawn to the medical field. When I was in undergrad I shadowed several different medical professionals and decided optometry was the best fit for me. I have found the perfect work-life balance with optometry. I decided to focus on pediatrics because I love helping kids and I find the link between vision and learning very interesting. If you give a child sight or help them develop the skills they need to succeed in school it opens so many doors in their future.
Interesting Facts

I grew up in Colorado Springs and moved back after completing my residency. My husband is also an optometrist and we met in optometry school. We have a dog and two cats which we treat like children. We love to hike and have summited many of the peaks in the Colorado Springs skyline. This year we are starting our first garden! We are growing tomatoes, peppers, and a few other vegetables.

Why did you become a optometrist?
I volunteered at a local eye clinic in Accra, Ghana during my third year of college. I worked in various rural villages where people have no access to vision care and when I saw their expressions when they were finally able to see with glasses - that was the moment I knew I wanted to work with eyes. Being able to provide that instant gratification was an amazing feeling.
Interesting Facts

I was born and raised in Myanmar and came to the United States when I was 13 years old. I lived in New Jersey/Pennsylvania until 3 years ago when my husband and I decided to move to Colorado. We enjoy hiking, biking, and traveling with our toddler. Most of the time we are busy just trying to keep them entertained.

Why did you become a orthodontist?
My grandfather was a dentist with the US Army, from an early age he and my father encouraged me to go into the dental field. However, it was my personal experience with my childhood orthodontist that ultimately made me want to become an orthodontist. I was amazed at what a big difference they could make in my and other kids lives by helping to give them the confidence of a great smile.
Interesting Facts

Outside of work, I am married with two young children who keep me active. When I'm not chasing the kids around, I am an avid runner who also enjoys spending time outdoors hiking and exploring Colorado. When not enjoying the outdoors, I enjoy spending time with local friends and family.

The dentist and assistant were AMAZING! They made sure my daughter knew exactly what they were doing/using in her mouth and explained in a way she would understand for an 8 year old.
