Kid's Dental Sedation

The word “Dental Procedures” can have a scary ring to it, so we like to calm kids by taking them to "Relaxation Station”. Our goal is to keep every child calm, comfortable and minimize any distress associated with a dental procedure. When a tooth requires additional work, we offer various dental sedation options, ranging from laughing gas” to general anesthesia.

No Pain - All the Gain!

Kids in pain? Not on our watch! Keeping a child comfortable and relaxed during a tooth tune-up is our #1 priority. Our dental teams customize dental sedation recommendations based on a child’s age, temperament, and the amount of treatment required. Here are the options we provide:

  • Sleepy Juice (Numbing shot) - For minor procedures such as cavity fillings, we recommend treating with local anesthetics such as Lidocaine gel (Tickle Jelly) which can be applied to numb the treatment area which makes injections, if required, pain free. (parents should limit a child’s food intake to avoid accidental injury after the numbing of the mouth)

  • Laughing Gas (Nitrous Oxide) - Laughing gas is a safe treatment that has a mild sedative effect on children to reduce anxiety and help with relaxation. It is not intended to put them to sleep, but to ease the fears that some children may have before a dental procedure. It is easily administered with a nose mask and has a rapid recovery time after treatment.

  • Superhero Juice (Oral Conscious Sedation) - This treatment consists of giving a child liquid medication which the child drinks and becomes sedated. Oral conscious sedation has associated risks as it is not a predictable procedure being that sedation levels vary from child to child based on additional factors. We do not typically administer oral conscious sedation in our practices, however, your dentist can help discuss this option with you in more detail should you prefer to explore this option for your child’s dental treatment.
  • All The Way Under (General Anesthesia) - For children that require extensive treatment and do not have the psychological maturity to have the treatment safely performed, general anesthesia may be necessary to provide a comprehensive dental treatment. Under general anesthesia, your child will be completely asleep for the dental procedure and all procedures are typically completed in one visit. There are associated risks that your dentist and anesthesia provider will discuss in detail with you and it is always administered by a licensed anesthesiologist. Our general anesthesia options are only available in select practices.

We know that the more difficult children find dental treatments, the more likely they are to avoid the care their teeth need. This is why we work with all parents to find the right dental sedation options that work best for their children - kids deserve to be happy & so do their teeth!

We accept most insuances and children's dental medicaid.
