Children's Chipped Tooth Repair

With healthy, active kids, there’s always a risk of a tooth getting chipped or broken. Great news, we have the tricks to fixing them! Some kids are prone to getting a chipped tooth, whether that be on the playground, swing set, or in the backyard, broken teeth can be a common occurrence. When a child does have a broken tooth it is important to contact your dentist right away. Our dentists will examine the child and determine the extent of damage to the tooth and in some cases, the dentist may be able to reattach the tooth fragment directly onto the point of break. If you are able to locate the chipped tooth fragment, bring it with you to the dentist’s office in a bag with saline or water.

You Break It, We Fix It!

When repairing a broken tooth a dentist will access the size of the chip and where in the mouth it is located. In some cases, it may be possible to repair the tooth with a simple filling, similar to a cavity filling. The dentist will use an adhesive and a resin that matches the natural color and shape of the tooth.

Larger breaks, such as fractures that affect the nerve and blood vessels within a tooth, may require a dental crown or veneers. A veneer is a good option for fractured tooth repair on the front teeth by covering the tooth to restore it’s form, function, and aesthetics. If a broken tooth exposes the nerves and blood vessels, a root canal may be necessary to prevent infection.
