Say No Way to Decay!
Cavities are the most basic form of tooth decay, especially in toddlers and children. A cavity can form when a buildup of plaque eats at the tooth enamel creating a hole in the tooth. Although proper dental hygiene, diet, and routine dental check-ups are the best defense against tooth decay, sometimes cavities can be hard to prevent.
Keeping baby teeth healthy is extremely important because of the short-term and long-term impacts it has on the overall health and happiness of a child. An untreated cavity in baby teeth can harbor bacteria and potentially spread decay to other baby teeth and to the permanent teeth beneath the surface. Children with untreated cavities may experience severe pain, infection, tooth loss, gum disease, or inability to sleep, therefore impacting their overall health.
A Sparkly Healthy Smile!
When a cavity is detected, preventive and restorative measures are taken to prevent the decay from spreading throughout the mouth. The dentist will first remove the decay, then will fill in the decay with either a silver colored filling or a white colored filling. We like to call these fillings “stars” because they twinkle in your mouth. Our teams are specialized in using kid-friendly terms to describe dental procedures and dental instruments to keep children comfortable and stress-free.
Like children, not all cavities are alike, so we personalize our approach to cavity treatments based on the needs of the child and parental preferences. The age of children, number of cavities, temperament, and developmental/behavioral aspects all factor into the personalization of your child’s treatment plan.
